PIZZA AL FORNO CON PASTA

  1. Cook the Pasta
    Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the pasta until al dente, following package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Sauce
    In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened (about 3 minutes). Add garlic, red bell pepper, and Italian sausage (if using) and cook until the sausage is browned and the vegetables are softened.
  3. Mix with Tomato Sauce
    Add tomato passata or marinara sauce to the skillet, and sprinkle with oregano, red pepper flakes (if desired), salt, and pepper. Stir and let simmer for 5-7 minutes to let the flavors blend.
  4. Combine Pasta and Sauce
    Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F). In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained pasta with the sauce mixture, half of the mozzarella cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix well to evenly coat the pasta.
  5. Assemble the Bake
    Grease a baking dish (9×13 inch or similar). Pour in the pasta mixture, spreading it evenly in the dish. Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, and add olives if desired.
  6. Bake
    Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted, golden, and bubbly.
  7. Garnish and Serve
    Remove from the oven and allow it to cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve warm.
