- Cook the Pasta
Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the pasta until al dente, following package instructions. Drain and set aside. - Prepare the Sauce
In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened (about 3 minutes). Add garlic, red bell pepper, and Italian sausage (if using) and cook until the sausage is browned and the vegetables are softened. - Mix with Tomato Sauce
Add tomato passata or marinara sauce to the skillet, and sprinkle with oregano, red pepper flakes (if desired), salt, and pepper. Stir and let simmer for 5-7 minutes to let the flavors blend. - Combine Pasta and Sauce
Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F). In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained pasta with the sauce mixture, half of the mozzarella cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix well to evenly coat the pasta. - Assemble the Bake
Grease a baking dish (9×13 inch or similar). Pour in the pasta mixture, spreading it evenly in the dish. Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, and add olives if desired. - Bake
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted, golden, and bubbly. - Garnish and Serve
Remove from the oven and allow it to cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve warm.
