- Prepare the Panna Cotta:
- In a saucepan, heat the cream, milk, and sugar over medium heat. Add the vanilla bean (or vanilla extract). Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- In a small bowl, soak the gelatin sheets in cold water for 5 minutes, then dissolve them in the hot cream mixture, stirring until fully dissolved. If using powdered gelatin, sprinkle it directly into the hot liquid and stir.
- Pour the mixture into small molds or glasses. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
- Prepare the Fruit Topping:
- In a small saucepan, heat the red fruits with 2 tbsp of sugar over medium heat. Stir gently until the fruit releases its juices and becomes syrupy (about 5 minutes). You can leave the fruit chunky or mash it slightly for a smoother texture.
- Allow the fruit mixture to cool.
- Assemble:
- Once the panna cotta is set, top it with the fruit mixture. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.
- Serve:
- Serve chilled, and enjoy the sweet, creamy, and tangy layers of flavor in this traditional Italian dessert.
